You need both compound movements and isolation movements in your training.
Compound movements like bench press involve multiple muscle groups, whereas isolation movements like the tricep extension involve only one muscle. For optimal results you want to use both compound and isolation movements in your training.
A study cited below looked at bench press versus tricep extensions versus bench press + tricep extensions. They found the best results when bench press and tricep extensions were paired. This is consistent in the research and also my experience with hundreds of clients: that compound movements and isolation movements worth best together.
