Should you train to failure?

Training to failure is extremely fatiguing on the body, and it’s not sustainable. At first you’ll get expedited results, but eventually your lifts will start to suffer and so will your gym motivation 📉

Instead of training to failure, you should train intensely, but still leave just a few reps in the tank.

When I’m performing a set, I should not be able to hold a conversation with a friend. If you were to come up to me and ask me my middle name or the name of my dog, I wouldn’t be able to answer you. My rep speed would start to diminish, meaning the rate at which I could press or pull an object would start to slow down. You’re definitely trying to walk the line between training to failure while still training intensely enough.

Coaching Client Transformation: Megan

Client spotlight: Megan a coaching client on @getverb. Here’s what she had to say about working with me:

“I had a goal of losing 7-10 pounds in the four months leading up to my wedding. I had tried various diet and exercise approaches in the past, but my husband (who was my fiancé at the time) suggested I try something new. He introduced me to Jacob, whom he had met through a mutual friend in the past, and suggested I check out his programs.

I believe the three most important factors in my fitness journey with Jacob were accountability/consistency, increasing my protein intake, and incorporating weight lifting into my workout routine. Jacob helped me view food as fuel and taught me the importance of tracking my macronutrient intake. He also emphasized the value of weight training in addition to my existing high-intensity interval training (HIIT) workouts and runs. As an athlete, I thought I had a good understanding of what it takes to be “fit,” but working with Jacob taught me that I wasn’t eating enough protein and that a well-rounded exercise program inclusive of weight lifting was essential for achieving my goals.

One of the things I appreciate most about working with Jacob is the accountability he provides. I’ve struggled in the past maintaining progress due to my job’s demands for travel and socializing, which often includes dinners and happy hours out.”

Clio Yogurt Bars

@cliosnacks Greek yogurt bars actually taste like chocolate-covered cheesecake. They’ve got about 7-8g of protein per 100 calories, depending on the flavor. No, that doesn’t pass the test (we’re looking for 10g protein), but it’s pretty damn close. They actually have better macros than some protein bars on the market.

I really enjoyed the taste, though I personally myself prefer @yasso ice cream bars. But if you’re really into cheesecake and you’re looking for a more macro-friendly alternative, you should check this product out.

Does fasted cardio work?

Does fasted cardio work? Yes, of course ✅ Any cardio works as long as you actually do it.

But does fasted cardio actually increase fat loss compared to non-fasted cardio? No it does not ❌

The best cardio is the kind that you can do consistently. So if you enjoy running on an empty stomach, that’s perfectly fine. If you don’t have a lifestyle that facilitates that, it’s perfectly fine to fit cardio in whenever you can.

Just remember, you want at least 75 minutes of intense cardio per week (at approximately 80-100% of your max heart rate) OR 150 minutes of moderate cardio per week (approximately 110-130 bpm).
