If you’re serious about putting muscle on, STRETCH

Everybody is obsessed with how much weight they can lift, but it’s equally important to stretch and contract the muscle. Yes, you want to progress your lifts, meaning over time you want to lift more weight. But you want to do it with a full range of motion while feeling the intended muscle.

You should both be feeling a stretch and a contraction of the muscle. You should feel it length, and then feel it squeeze, in order to build more muscle.

2 things needed to grow your chest:
1️⃣ Full range of motion
2️⃣ Stretch at the bottom

2 things needed to grow your lats:
1️⃣ Full range of motion
2️⃣ Stretch at the very top

Client Spotlight: Femi

Client spotlight: Femi @femilicious2.0 who had an amazing transformation as a coaching client on @getverb. I’ve never had the pleasure of meeting her in person but I worked with her remotely for 8 months. During that time Femi lost 17 lbs while still progressing her lifts.

Femi is getting ready to compete in a powerlifting show coming up. Congratulations on making this transformation while still achieving your strength goals.

Eggs are really expensive right now

Eggs are really expensive right now. I think the way people treat nutrition is entirely different to how they approach anything else in life. They have an all or nothing mentality. You wouldn’t say “I’m only driving a Ferrari or I’m not driving any car at all.” But people are either in diet mode or they’re completely not, there’s no in between.

It’s okay to not spend $9 on a carton of eggs. Your chickens don’t have to be woke and be straight-A students. You can still be healthy and buy $4 a carton eggs.

How to eat 500 calories or less at Chipotle

I love Chipotle, but it’s a lot of calories. It’s very easy to have an 800-1000 calorie meal and blow your entire load in one sitting. Here’s 2 ways to eat at Chipotle and have around 500 calories for lunch:

Option 1️⃣: Tortilla, black beans, chicken, veggies

Option 2️⃣: Bowl, black beans, chicken, veggies, half a serving of guacamole

Dieting is all about reducing, not eliminating

Dieting is all about reducing, not eliminating 💡

Wegman’s has an amazing brand of turkey bacon that passes the test (10g protein per 100 calories). It’s 50 calories and 6g protein per slice, it’s low in fat and moderate in sodium. Not all turkey bacon is a better alternative than traditional bacon- you have to look at the label.

Understand that this is still processed meat and that it has a significant amount of sodium in it. So it’s not an everyday thing, because you have to consider the rest of your diet that day when making this choice.

However, what’s life without enjoying bacon occasionally? 🥓

Should you train to failure?

Training to failure is extremely fatiguing on the body, and it’s not sustainable. At first you’ll get expedited results, but eventually your lifts will start to suffer and so will your gym motivation 📉

Instead of training to failure, you should train intensely, but still leave just a few reps in the tank.

When I’m performing a set, I should not be able to hold a conversation with a friend. If you were to come up to me and ask me my middle name or the name of my dog, I wouldn’t be able to answer you. My rep speed would start to diminish, meaning the rate at which I could press or pull an object would start to slow down. You’re definitely trying to walk the line between training to failure while still training intensely enough.
