The Key To Changing Your Body

Going to the gym should never be about strictly burning calories. Yes, of course you’ll achieve that by working out. But instead you should approach the gym as either 1) cardio or 2) lifting weights.

Cardio should be about heart health, athletic endeavors, or performing better as a runner.

Weight training should be about building muscle, strengthening tendons and ligaments, and changing your body’s appearance.

How to grow your muscles at the gym

Training is where volume meets intensity. If you want to build muscle, you need to do the proper amount of volume where the sets are challenging enough that you cannot hold a conversation.

When I was training to grow my chest, I would do 13 sets every 3-4 days. Each and every one of these sets would be to near failure. I wouldn’t be able to hold a conversation when I was in the middle of bench pressing. If you’re newer to the gym, maybe you only need to do 6-8 sets twice a week, just make sure they are challenging sets.

Right now, I’m working on growing my calves. I’m training them nearly every day, five challenging sets. I’m taking each and every set near the brink of failure.

Siggi’s Icelandic Yogurt

@siggisdairy Greek yogurt has less milk fat and sugar than traditional yogurt. The plain yogurt is insane with 19g protein and only 100 calories. I personally love the vanilla yogurt, it brings back fond memories of my grandmother. I love the slightly tart taste. This one is about 15g protein and still 120 calories. If you’re looking for a simple, clean Greek yogurt this may be the option for you.

David lost 21lbs and has started his lean bulk.

Client spotlight: David Greenbaum David_greenbaum is a coaching client who has been working with me on @getverb for four months. He lost 21lbs and has started his lean bulk. He’s currently building muscle and getting stronger at the gym. I’ve never had the pleasure of meeting him in person.

David has a successful career and a wonderful life, but let’s face it, looking good in your 30s is different than in your 20s. He didn’t feel like his old self and wanted to make a positive change. Congrats David!
