Fellippe is a coaching client who lost 25lbs working with me

Client spotlight: Fellippe @ninester79 is a coaching client on @getverb who lost approximately 25lbs. I’ve run into him a couple of times at @greenlifeny and only had the pleasure of training with him once in person. Here’s what he had to say:

“I reached out to Jacob after seeing his no-nonsense approach on his Instagram videos, and the fact that he really cares about the results and not about telling people what they want to hear. I wanted to lose a lot of weight and at least get on a path to do it on my own. I looked at some testimonials online and figured I should give him a try.

The biggest habit change Jacob introduced to me was tracking my food. It was the very first thing he asked of me during our intro call, and it’s sobering to see how quickly calories add up during the day.

I really liked having the day to day interaction on text to be able to make the subtle tweaks necessary to get where I needed to go. The difference between doing this yourself versus with someone good isn’t night and day as far as the effort, but just being able to make the right decisions so as not to lose momentum. Also being able to adjust for social outings was something I didn’t know was possible, and he made it easy to do so.

I love Jacob’s directness and ability to be tough when needed, but at the same time he’s also very encouraging and will let you know that you’ve done well. It takes a special kind of temperament to be able to be good at this, and he has that.

For this reason I’ve stuck with him, and also being able to lose 6-8 lbs a month is another! He talked a big game and delivered even bigger, so you have to love that.

Besides being in the best shape in a very long time, I feel like any kind of fitness goal I wish to achieve is achievable now.”

Bumblebee tuna vs. Kirkland tuna

What’s the difference between Kirkland and Bumblebee tuna?

Well you’re not surprised that the Kirkland brand is cheaper, but you may be surprised that there’s actually more tuna per can.

What is probably the most shocking is that they are both made by Bumblebee tuna. This is the case with a lot of Kirkland signature brands, they’re actually made by highly reputable companies at a lower price point on the shelves at Costco.

I myself will never eat tuna again because I grew up poor and ate way too much of it in high school in order to build my budding muscles.

If you’re serious about building muscle, train hard every set

If you’re pyramiding your weight through the course of training and not challenging yourself to the last set, you’re never going to see the results you’ve always wanted.

Let’s say we do 3 sets as follows:
Set 1: 100lbs for 10 reps
Set 2: 140lbs for 10 reps
Set 3: 180lbs for 10 reps
If I can complete all of these sets with these weights, then I should’ve been using 180lbs for all 3 of my working sets.

A better way to train is the following:
Set 1: 180lbs for 10 reps, pretty difficult
Set 2: 180lbs for 10 reps, very difficult
Set 3: 180lbs for 10 reps, near impossible

One challenging set of an exercise is not enough to get the body you’ve always wanted.

Cashews are packed with healthy fats 🧳💥

Cashews are an amazing source of polyunsaturated and monounsaturated fats. They are also a modest source of protein.

I love to keep healthy snacks with me for when I’m on the go. I keep protein bars, a case of water, and a couple other snacks in the trunk of my car. No junk in this trunk.

An ounce of prevention is better than a pound of cure.

Client spotlight: Clayton

Client spotlight: Clayton is a coaching client on @getverb and trains with me in person. He’s lost over 50lbs with me in the past 5 months.

“I had pretty much hit rock bottom with my health and weight. Being in the restaurant business, my working life revolves around food. My relationship with the bar, restaurant, ice cream shop and movie theater concessions stand was unhealthy. A quick drink or two at the bar turned into late night second dinners then a stop at the ice cream shop for a quick scoop or two or a milkshake. I had given up even trying and was just stuffing myself full and chasing sugar crashes with more sugar. But then I ran into a friend who described how he got results with Jacob’s guidance and I reached out. I was looking to just be better.

Tracking calories changed everything for me. The unthoughtful eating at all hours of the day and night turned into better decisions and eventually no decisions at all. The accountability of tracking calories for daily check ins on what was consumed the day before really helped get it in line. Adding the purposeful strength and cardio plans Jacob provided to achieve discussed goals led to making better choices.

I like his kind but firm and no-nonsense approach to everything as well as his bottomless depth of nutritional knowledge to answer questions I had throughout the day.”

Chicken breasts can get boring real quick 🐓 Enter: chicken thighs

Chicken breasts can get played out real quick 🐓 Enter: chicken thighs, which I find to be much tastier but also can still have great macros.

The right set of thighs can offer plenty of taste and still have killer macros. Don’t be scared to cut the fat ✂️
