This past Thursday I was fortunate enough to be featured on @fox5ny Good Day New York with @rosannascotto and @billybush. We talked about portion size and how you can enjoy flexibility in your diet.
The truth is that I have approximately 300 calories of ice cream every single day and the rest of my diet looks very much like traditional health food. I believe very strongly in the principle of 80/20 nutrition, which is that 20% of your calories can be flexible and that you can still be in incredible shape and live a long life.
This segment was very important to me because people preach a false doctrine of perfection when it comes to nutrition. Everyone pretends like they’re eating raw beef liver or don’t have any sugar in their diet, but the reality is that America is grossly overweight and unhealthy. These perfectionist standards prevent people from ever achieving sustainability. Instead they go through this vicious cycle of eating pristinely healthy and then binges involving late night snacking or uncontrolled eating on the weekends.
Here’s to normalizing flexible dieting.
