4 Tips for Sticking to New Year’s Resolutions

Yes it’s cliche, but there’s never a wrong time to change your life. I’m going to give you 4 keys to sticking to a fitness New Year’s resolution.

1️⃣Write out a list of pros and cons. Dieting is difficult. You might not be able to commit at this time. And rather than go into a perpetual state of yo-yo dieting, make sure that it’s the right time to start and that you’re ready to commit. The difference between people who succeed and fail is often those who don’t give up.

2️⃣Be realistic. You should be expecting to lose between 1 and 1.5 lbs a week. Could you lose weight more quickly than this? Yes, but it will likely be a fad diet that’s not sustainable. Once you come off that fad diet, you will more than likely regain the weight you just worked so hard to lose.

3️⃣Accountability. Diets typically have a 3% success rate. When you add accountability to the mix it raises to a 20% success rate. My virtual coaching program has over 60% success rate and with people who see me in person I have an over 90% success rate. Why? Because accountability is powerful. Hire a coach, hire a trainer that isn’t afraid to tell you off, at the very least find an opinionated, outspoken friend to be your workout buddy.

4️⃣Track your progress. Create a food diary, track your weigh ins. You want to be able to have something to look back on if you’re not moving in the right direction. This allows you to reverse engineer either your diet or the realization that your weekends are a complete 💩show. You want quantitative data to learn from.
